Approaching a quarter of a century in the glamping cabin industry, Charles Gulland will speak at the Glamping Show again this September.
With an encyclopedic knowledge of holiday let cabins, Charles invented a timber tent in the 1990s and since then has helped spearhead the glamping revolution here in the UK. Wigwam® Holidays now has over 80 operational sites across the British Isles, and introduced the successful Wigwam® Franchise in 2014.
Charles will speak about his unique and proven business model which has put Wigwam® Holidays firmly on the glamping map.
From small beginning to in excess of 600 cabins currently in use across the country, Wigwam® Holidays is the result of hard work and innovative thinking, and the Franchise model is one of the most successful of its kind.
From his childhood enjoying the great outdoors to being the Managing Director of one of the nation’s leading glamping accommodation providers, Charles will draw on the background of glamping, use case studies, and examples of successful diversification projects that have joined the Wigwam® Brand.
As a graduate of Hooke Park College in Dorset, and later the winner of the Westminster Foundation Award for timber design, Charles was appointed designer in residence for the Countryside Commission of Scotland in 1990.
Two years later, he formed All Round Buildings (now Wigwam® Cabins Ltd) where he developed the use of timber thinnings in tandem with Heriot Watt University.
As a result of this experience, Charles spotted a niche in the market and in 1999 developed the timber tent, or wooden Wigwam® – a construction that could be used year round; that was fully insulated and heated and was created using steam bent timber and larch cladding.
The following year, he launched Wigwam® Holidays Ltd along with its website, www.wigwamholidays.com and over the next decade and a half, the company grew from four original sites to over 80 today.
As well as developing the portfolio of sites, the catalogue of cabins also developed: Wee Braves (accommodating three guests); Big Chiefs (accommodating up to a family of five); followed by the Running Water (with en-suite toilet, kitchen area and dining space) and the Running Water Deluxe, which includes shower, loo, kitchen area and dining area.
All cabins have lockable doors, Velux® windows, raised mattresses and an electricity supply.
A superb Running Water Deluxe Wigwam® Cabin will be present at the Glamping Show, along with members of the Wigwam® Holidays team.
